The 2026-27 slabs at a glance
These slabs apply to the taxable salary of salaried individuals, under the Finance Act 2026. Tax is worked out on the salary for the whole year, then your employer usually deducts one twelfth of it each month.
| Yearly taxable salary | Per month | Tax for the year |
|---|---|---|
| Rs 0 – Rs 600,000 | Rs 0 – Rs 50,000 | No tax |
| Rs 600,001 – Rs 1,200,000 | Rs 50,000 – Rs 100,000 | 1% of the amount above Rs 600,000 |
| Rs 1,200,001 – Rs 2,200,000 | Rs 100,000 – Rs 183,333 | Rs 6,000 + 11% of the amount above Rs 1,200,000 |
| Rs 2,200,001 – Rs 3,200,000 | Rs 183,333 – Rs 266,667 | Rs 116,000 + 20% of the amount above Rs 2,200,000 |
| Rs 3,200,001 – Rs 4,100,000 | Rs 266,667 – Rs 341,667 | Rs 316,000 + 25% of the amount above Rs 3,200,000 |
| Rs 4,100,001 – Rs 5,600,000 | Rs 341,667 – Rs 466,667 | Rs 541,000 + 29% of the amount above Rs 4,100,000 |
| Rs 5,600,001 – Rs 7,000,000 | Rs 466,667 – Rs 583,333 | Rs 976,000 + 32% of the amount above Rs 5,600,000 |
| Rs 7,000,000+ | Rs 583,333+ | Rs 1,424,000 + 35% of the amount above Rs 7,000,000 |
No tax up to Rs 50,000 a month. A taxable salary of up to Rs 600,000 a year pays no income tax.

Work it out yourself: Rs 150,000 a month
- Yearly salary: Rs 150,000 × 12 = Rs 1,800,000.
- The first Rs 600,000 is tax-free.
- The next Rs 600,000 (up to Rs 1,200,000) is taxed at 1%: Rs 6,000.
- The remaining Rs 600,000 falls in the 11% slab: Rs 66,000.
- Tax for the year: Rs 72,000, which is Rs 6,000 a month.
- Take-home pay: Rs 144,000 a month. The tax is 4% of the salary.
What changed from 2025-26
The slabs up to Rs 2.2 million a year (about Rs 183,333 a month) did not change. Above that, the rates went down: 20% instead of 23%, 25% instead of 30%, then two new slabs of 29% and 32%, and the top rate of 35% now starts above Rs 7 million instead of Rs 4.1 million. The 9% surcharge on salaries above Rs 10 million a year no longer applies.
| Salary per month | Tax 2025-26 | Tax 2026-27 | You save per year |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rs 150,000 | Rs 6,000 | Rs 6,000 | Rs 0 |
| Rs 200,000 | Rs 13,500 | Rs 13,000 | Rs 6,000 |
| Rs 250,000 | Rs 25,000 | Rs 23,000 | Rs 24,000 |
| Rs 300,000 | Rs 38,833 | Rs 34,667 | Rs 50,000 |
| Rs 400,000 | Rs 71,750 | Rs 62,000 | Rs 117,000 |
| Rs 500,000 | Rs 106,750 | Rs 92,000 | Rs 177,000 |
| Rs 1,000,000 | Rs 307,108 | Rs 264,500 | Rs 511,290 |
Two common mistakes
- “I am in the 11% slab, so I pay 11% of my salary.” No. Only the part of the salary inside each slab is taxed at that slab’s rate. On Rs 150,000 a month the top slab is 11%, but the tax is only 4% of the salary.
- “A raise can push me into a higher slab and leave me with less.” It cannot. A raise from Rs 183,333 to Rs 200,000 a month adds Rs 16,667; the tax goes up by Rs 3,333, so take-home pay still rises by Rs 13,334 a month.
What these figures do not include
The tables use taxable salary only. They do not include allowances that are exempt from tax, tax credits (for example for donations or approved pension funds), the rebate for full-time teachers and researchers, other income or pension. If your salary changed during the year, your employer may deduct a different amount in some months. This is an estimate for planning, not tax advice: check your payslip, or ask a tax adviser for your exact figure.

Questions
How much tax is deducted from a salary of Rs 100,000 a month in 2026-27?
Rs 100,000 a month is Rs 1,200,000 a year. That is 1% of the Rs 600,000 above the tax-free limit: Rs 6,000 a year, or Rs 500 a month.
Is there any income tax on a salary of Rs 50,000 a month?
No. Rs 50,000 a month is Rs 600,000 a year, which is the tax-free limit for salaried people in 2026-27.
Is the 9% surcharge still charged in 2026-27?
No. The 9% surcharge on salaried income above Rs 10 million a year applied in 2025-26; the FBR rate card for tax year 2027 does not include it for salaried income.
Why is my payslip deduction different from this table?
Usually because part of your salary is an exempt allowance, you have a tax credit, your salary changed during the year, or your employer spreads the tax differently across the months. The table is an estimate on taxable salary.
